3D Areola + Nipple Tattoo

3D areola tattooing, also known as 3D nipple tattooing, is a specialized technique used in breast reconstruction to create a realistic and three-dimensional appearance of the areola and nipple. Unlike traditional flat tattooing, which simply adds pigment to the skin, 3D areola tattooing involves skillfully layering shades of pigment to mimic the natural contours, texture, and shading of a real areola and nipple.

While a tattoo cannot produce the projection required to be truly “3-D”, a high quality detailed tattoo can appear to have dimension much like a real nipple/areola. Sandra consults with each patient to determine what looks best for them.

The inks used for nipple tattooing are mixed to create the most realistic appearance possible for each patient. Sandra strives to create a shade that resembles the patient’s original nipple and complements her natural skin tone. This is one of the reasons it is important to have an advanced paramedical tattoo artist perform the procedure – there is an art to making each nipple unique to each patient.

Sandra is a Breast Cancer Survivor and Thriver herself. She was diagnosed June 2020 with invasive ductal carcinoma. She had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction followed by chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Being a master permanent makeup artist already, she decided to further her skill in 3D areola tattooing during her own recovery as she wanted to offer the most realistic areola/nipple to her clients.

Sandra knew this was her calling. She knew she could  take her medical knowledge, breast cancer experience and intense tattoo training, and use it to come back and help other survivors and thrivers complete their breast cancer journey.

Sandra stated "As long as I have a voice and a platform no matter how small or large, I will use it to bring breast cancer awareness to inform survivors they do have options after reconstruction. I’d like to encourage women and men to be their best advocate, to research; to follow their gut and to ask questions."
